Rutsuko Sakuma
(Freelance Writer & Translator)

After living in the U.S. (one year in Missouri as a high school exchange student & four and a half years for college in New Jersey and Massachusetts), I returned to Japan upon graduation. Following positions at Conrad Tokyo and Recruit, I moved to Germany on a working holiday visa, where I learned German and joined MARITIM, the country’s largest hotel chain. Later, I began working independently as a freelancer.
After five years in Berlin and Frankfurt, I returned to Japan and worked at eBay Japan before resuming my freelance career. I hold a B.S. in Hospitality Management from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
My hobbies include camping, visiting hot springs, playing the piano, skiing, and playing with two kids. A passionate traveler, I’ve visited around 50 countries—from South America to the Middle East and even the Arctic—enjoying everything from backpacking to cruise trips.
